This dynamic development transformed four acres of surface parking lots on three separate blocks within Charlotte’s Center City into a vibrant mixed-use district including office, retail, cultural arts and future residential uses. The tower features custom-designed daylight-harvesting blinds that reflect an abundance of natural daylight into the building, reducing the amount of energy used for lighting. Automatic daylight sensors, electronic dimming controls, and occupancy sensors further reduce the need for artificial lighting.

According to Zillow, the average home valuation in the Triad’s three main cities is around $250,000, compared with more than $300,000 for the state as a whole and more than $400,000 in the Triangle. One school offering such training is Guilford Technical Community College, the site of Mr. Cooper’s Greensboro appearance. At the same event, Jill Biden, the first lady, highlighted what she saw as the importance of such programs to enacting President Biden’s economic agenda. In High Point, a hosiery mill sat vacant for decades, opening only for biannual furniture showrooms. But in 2021, a group of local investors joined with the city’s Chamber of Commerce and a local foundation that donated more than $40 million to convert the site to a co-working space, Congdon Yards.

Duke plans to cut its Charlotte office space by about 60%, saving $90 million over five years.

Currently, Duke Energy maintains more than 3,300 MW of solar power on its energy grid in North Carolina and operates 40 solar facilities. Duke Energy plans to move its headquarters to a new building it's constructing across the street from its current home in uptown Charlotte. The company says it's adopting a new workplace model that dramatically reduces its need for office space. Key to that transition is the role of work force development programs, which involve partnerships between businesses and community colleges to provide the skills to work in advanced manufacturing. The GSA allows large customers to offset its power purchases by securing renewable energy from projects connected to the Duke Energy grid. The customer may keep the renewable energy certificates (RECs) from the projects and use the energy purchased to satisfy sustainability or carbon-free goals.

Along with her husband, who worked for Nike, Melissa Binder left Portland, Ore., in 2019 for Winston-Salem to raise their child. While designing the mural, Jeyifous consulted with the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture and met with civic leaders and former members of the historic Brooklyn community. Duke also plans to move out of leased space at 400 South Tryon St. uptown and at Piedmont Town Center in South Park, the former Piedmont Natural Gas headquarters. And it plans to sell two office buildings uptown, at 526 Church St. and 401 College St.

And for the first time, the NCUC approval covers multiyear rates, along with incentives and penalties to hold the utility accountable for reliability and other performance metrics. The move fits well with Charlotte's goal to have its municipal fleet and facilities be fueled by 100% zero-carbon energy sources by 2030. My favorite was the Las Vegas Roll, fried crab and cream cheese drizzled with eel sauce and mayonnaise. Dipped in more complimentary eel sauce, the sweet and savory combination was a mouthwatering masterpiece. The extensive list of signature rolls goes beyond what most restaurants offer. For those who can’t decide, let the kitchen choose with a $150 omakase experience (advance reservations required). It may sound odd but it definitely works at Cowfish, where diners can choose from a variety of specialty rolls or create their own. For the ultimate fusion experience, check out the “burgushi” section of the menu, which has items like double-cheeseburger roll wrapped in soy paper. Those looking for a buzzing atmosphere should head to Nikko, where the restaurant offers a seemingly endless selection of sushi rolls.

The filling was savory and juicy, serving as a perfect counterpoint to the dryness of the spring rolls and the soft moistness of the sushi rolls. After opening in 2020, Prime Fish rose to the top of Charlotte’s list of best new restaurants for a good reason — chef Robin Anthony offers Tokyo-style sushi and expert sake pairings. Anthony recently opened an omakase restaurant and reservations are almost impossible to secure. The fact that there’s $1.95 nigiri and almost 20 rolls for less than $7 doesn’t mean the kitchen skimps on quality at this laid-back destination. Be sure to sample at least one of the New Zealand dishes like the Queenstown’s crispy chicken in between bites of sushi.

All You Can Eat

Initially, I was not pleased with the $17.99 price for the all-you-can-eat dinner, especially because drinks cost extra, but I quickly realized that the price was reasonable for the amount and the quality of the food provided. Cozy spot Yamazaru is go-to for American classic (think plenty of cream cheese) and specialty rolls, but many claim the chirashi bowl is the can’t-miss on the menu. If the dining room is full, there is outdoor seating. O-Ku has made a name for itself in cities like Charleston and Atlanta by offering high-quality fish, inventive rolls, and playful cocktails. The spring rolls were unremarkable, but the dumplings were a superb combination of soft and crispy.

Restaurant review: Rockin' Rolls Sushi conveys a unique and delicious dining experience

Charlotte’s sushi scene seems to grow each year, as new destinations continue to pop up in Uptown and the surrounding suburbs. Grabbing sushi is often a time to socialize over tasty bites, so many of these establishments have the desired atmosphere for a fun evening with friends. There’s also more casual spots for patrons simply looking to satisfy their sushi craving. Whether there’s a special occasion or it’s simply a day where raw fish is a must, these seven Charlotte spots have sushi lovers covered. Aside from sushi rolls, the belt carries a variety of other Japanese delights from the kitchen to the tables. The belt even provides cheesecake and tiramisu as dessert at no additional cost.

Consistently recognized as being one of the best Japanese restaurants in Charlotte, Nikko Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar has everything you’re looking for in authentic Japanese-style food. We cater to the desires of our clients by offering a sushi bar, dining room seating, and a generous patio with outdoor seating and a spectacular view of the city. In addition to our restaurant services, we offer dancing and entertainment with a live DJ on Friday and Saturday nights.

We pledge to make Rockin’ Rolls Sushi Express the best place to eat and the best place to work. Though somewhat pricey, the unique experience of dining alongside a conveyor belt of all-you-can-eat sushi combined with the quality and deliciousness of the food made for an excellent dining experience. Even as someone who typically does not like seafood, Rockin' Rolls kept me eating long after I was full. Our goal at Rockin' Rolls Sushi Express is to make the best darn sushi you've ever had.

Come see for yourself why Nikko is the best of Charlotte. Sushi has never been one of my favorite foods, but the mesmerizing conveyor belt running alongside my table led me to sample nearly a dozen different types. Each sushi roll I tried was fresh and delicious, and the variety was enough to keep my palate entertained. The inside of the restaurant is clean and sparsely decorated. The main feature of the dining area is the thin conveyor belt that runs between each row of tables, carrying sushi and other foods to eager customers. San Francisco Neighborhood Guide: Where to Live in 2024

mrs doubtfire house san francisco

At busy times, drivers need to wait up to 30 minutes to drive down this narrow winding street. Personally, I’m not a confident enough driver to drive the world’s most crooked street, so, I prefer to walk it and take lots of photos. The center sections of the street are filled with bright and colorful flowers, making the street uber-photogenic in Summer and Spring especially. Known as the most crooked street in the world because of its 8 hairpin bends, Lombard Street is definitely a must-visit in San Francisco CBD. Usually, when you’re daydreaming about whether you could actually move into one of the most iconic childhood homes of the ’90s, the answer is a resounding no. According to nydailynews.com, a warehouse in the San Francisco Bay Area was used to construct the sets and bring the Hillards’ cozy family home to life.

Mission Bay

Western Addition is another great place to live for those who enjoy walking and biking, as it has a Walk Score of 97 and a Bike Score of 91. Rincon Hill was built on top of “Rincon Hill,” a hill once part of the original San Francisco peninsula that ended at Rincon Point. The neighborhood is home to many high-rise residential towers and views of the Bay Bridge. You can find some great waterfront restaurants in this neighborhood and also easily get to the San Francisco Bay Trail.

Telegraph Hill

The film was based on the novel written by Anne Fine and became an instant global hit upon its release. The movie won an Academy Award for Best Makeup, a Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, and star actor Robin Williams took home a Golden Globe for Best Actor. Some scenes were reportedly filmed on a set in a warehouse in the Richmond District of San Francisco. This would be similar to how Chris Colombus filmed Home Alone just a few years earlier, using a mixture of a real house and sets. What most people probably won’t realize is, the movie is based on the British book, Madame Doubtfire.

Golden Gate Bridge

The Mrs Doubtfire house in 2016 looks almost identical to how it looked in 1993, there are however some subtle changes. For starters a tree has been placed on the sidewalk outside the house, this was definitely not there in the movie. Serving homebuyers and sellers in the San Francisco area, Carlos Barrientos is a top real estate agent at Redfin with the latest market insights and local expertise. With years of experience as a real estate agent in the greater San Francisco area, Carlos Barrientos possesses a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the local market.

Were scenes for Mrs. Doubtfire filmed inside the house?

Chinatown is also San Francisco’s most walkable neighborhood due to its relative flatness compared to the rest of the city. There is a wide range of apartments in San Francisco, from small and simple to large and luxurious. Many apartments offer stunning views of the cityscape, while others are located in more residential areas. Now that we’ve covered the types of homes and apartments you’ll encounter, let’s get into the neighborhoods themselves. San Francisco is a one-of-a-kind city with its rolling hills, views of the bay, and the Golden Gate Bridge. Not to mention, the steep streets lined with Victorian-style houses, cable cars, foggy summers, and beachfront paths only add to the charm of the city.

There are also plenty of restaurants whether you’re looking for a cozy café, ice cream, or innovative cuisines. If you’re into biking, Dogpatch is a great place to do it, as the neighborhood has a Bike Score of 93. Alamo Square is a great neighborhood to live in if you don’t have a car, as it has a Walk Score of 97. I was able to take a few photos of the house, and matched them up with stills from the movie. Most of the interior scenes were filmed on location (Douglas noted to look for the pattern in the hardwood floor), but the kitchen was built at a soundstage in the city. It’s interesting to see, next to photos, how closely it was modeled after the actual kitchen.

The “Mrs. Doubtfire” House in Pacific Heights

This is mainly because when you see the kitchen as it is today, further down this post, doors have moved and it doesn’t appear as if the dimensions fit the real kitchen. The movie is based around Daniel Hillard (Robin Williams), going through a divorce with his wife. In an elaborate plan to spend more time with his children, he decides to dress up as a female nanny.

“The Power of the Dog” ranch was purposefully built for the movie

Indeed, fans will never forget sitting at the edge of their seats, hoping that people would not uncover her identity. For her clients, Janet and Nick Bijur—and their four children, ages 12 to 18—the designer was tasked with reimagining five rooms as well as the front garden. “I think being the Mrs. Doubtfire house, [they] definitely wanted to engage with a designer to really elevate and spotlight it,” says Fisher Freckmann. The three other bedrooms inside the property, most of which didn’t feature too heavily in the movie. Today, the Mrs Doubtfire house is far more light and airy, with hardwood floors throughout the house. The windows on the staircase are now clear, rather than stained glass, while the arch has been completely removed.

The only big change I picked up on were the built-in bookshelves around the living room fireplace in the movie, which were gone by the time these real estate shots were taken. As it turns out, this is an actual real-life address, which, since Robin Williams' untimely death in 2014, has become a site for fans from all over the world to leave flowers and notes of remembrance. So, for the 25th anniversary of the film's release, I wanted to take a look inside the iconic Pacific Heights home to relive some of the movie's best moments, without spending any money on airfare.

Fans of Williams left flowers, cards, candles, and messages of remembrance outside the property. The staircase in the Mrs Doubtfire house had three large stained-glass windows on the back wall, allowing in a lot of light. As you can see in the top-left of the picture below, there was also an arch with some decorative detail.

The book, written by Anne Fine, was nominated for numerous awards when it was released in 1987. The movie adaption was directed by Chris Columbus, who has given us some good “house movies” over the years, including Home Alone. Before we jump into the neighborhoods, let’s discuss the housing options you’ll come across while searching for the perfect area to live. The homes for sale in San Francisco will vary in style, but most are Victorians, Edwardians, or Craftsman homes. You’ll see that the Victorian and Edwardian homes are often very ornate, with a lot of detail work. On the other hand, the Craftsman homes are more simple but still have a lot of charm.

When Robin Williams died in 2014, the house became a memorial of sorts for fans, with hundreds of flowers, letters, and cards being left on the doorstep after his death. Original touches like hardwood floors, classic millwork and moldings, and leaded glass windows—trimmed with plantation shutters—give the home a charming vintage feel. Unlike most Victorian homes in the city, however, the residence at 2640 Steiner St. is built on a corner lot, which means it's both roomy and filled with natural light. The ‘little girl’ known as Natalie in the 90’s movie is named Mara Wilson and she was just 6 years old during the filming of Mrs. Doubtfire. She was a childhood star in her youth and is well-known for her roles as Susan in Miracle on 34th Street and Matilda in Matilda! Mrs Doubtfire is a classic movie directed by Chris Columbus in 1993 (and no, not the Christopher Columbus you are probably thinking of!), and the Mrs Doubtfire house seen in the film is just as classic!

Daniel is obliged to take on a manual job boxing up cans of film for shipping at ‘KTVU Television Studios’, which really is KTVU California, 2 Jack London Square, across the Bay from San Francisco in Oakland. The Hillard family home is, as the film says, 2640 Steiner Street at the junction with Broadway in the classy Pacific Heights area, with that wonderful view down Steiner to the Bay. Like we’re supposed to believe that the family rode the Powell-Hyde cable car to some sweaty, tropical paradise. It just hit the market for the first time since the late ’90s, which means we finally have a chance to see inside the real house and compare it to the rooms we saw onscreen. And let's not forget the highly memorable staircase, which the kids are always seemingly running up or down together. It figures prominently in the actual house, and the front door opens right to it, just like in the film.

You can find cuisines ranging from German, Greek, and French to Italian, Mexican, and Japanese. From its trendy shops to its leafy parks and tree-lined streets, Hayes Valley is a wonderful place to call home. The Fisherman’s Wharf neighborhood is a historic area known for its seafood restaurants, attractions, and views of San Francisco Bay and Alcatraz Island. The neighborhood is home to a ton of restaurants, hotels, and tourist attractions, including the Ghirardelli Chocolate Company, the Wax Museum at Fisherman’s Wharf, and Pier 39. Today, it’s a vibrant community with a mix of residential, commercial, and industrial businesses. You’ll find lots of art galleries and museums like the Institute of Contemporary Art San Francisco.

Women brewers revolutionizing the craft beer scene

mujeres brew house

The brewery opened nine years ago in San Diego and co-owns Mujeres Brew House. Mujeres Brew House in Barrio Logan is providing women a space to be able to sell their tamales and take all their profits home, which they say nowadays during inflation is a big help. Favela said they hired a Mexican food truck to serve food at the brewery as they have a large outdoor space that allows Mujeres Brew House to fully operate outside. “I started painting the wall this Mexican pink; it was so bright but I loved it,” Velasco-Favela said. Once we had this space, the next step was trying to learn how to stabilize and operate a brewery.

More from FOX 5 San Diego & KUSI News

The minute we were able to serve a beer, people were here to support. Honestly, I think just the fact that it was the first all-female-led brewery in San Diego was just very powerful and impactful to San Diego. I hired [former employee] Esthela [Davila] as a host as she had been very involved in the craft beer industry. She was Latina, so I figured she’d be the right person to bring on to start this project. We had over 50 women coming to each session for this six-month series.

It was beautiful to see all of these women get together and build relationships and learn about craft beer. Her husband, David Favela, is the co-founder of Border X Brewing, the first Latino-owned brewery in San Diego. Velasco-Favela and Davila were able to create a beer club for women, hosted at Border X Brewing. Mujeres Brew House is the first Latina-owned brewery in San Diego. The project was created by Carmen Velasco-Favela and Esthela Davila. However, the two women were creating a beer space for women before that.

Since then, Edgar has amassed over 16,000 followers on Instagram where he posts chugging videos and brewery trips. He would go on to collaborate as a contract brewer with Death Row Records, BeerAdvocate, Beer Zombies Brewing Co., Crowns and Hops Brewing Co., King Brewing Co. and 8Bit Brewing Co. “We have been buying our supplies for our tamales and we have noticed a decrease in sales, and it is impacting us financially because we have to put the money upfront,” said Maria Cadenas, owner of Mi Cocina Carrillo. “We’re helping each other find our voice and stand out in a crowd of bearded brewers,” she said with a laugh. ‘We're Making History': Latinas in Barrio Logan Open Brewery During Pandemic

Your going to have to take a nice walk every time you want more drinks. Favela and co-founder Estela Davila, who serves as tasting room lead, eventually branched out from the club to create Mujeres Brew House. However, she received a lot of support from the women's club and several families who told her that they were excited about the reopening. Opening their own establishment where they could serve craft beer is a dream they had been planning for months and almost did not see come true. A group of enterprising Latinas decided to open a brewery in the middle of the pandemic in Barrio Logan and make history. This project was produced by Priscilla Maldonado as a published learning experience in JMS 550 Digital Journalism, part of the Journalism and Media Studies Program at San Diego State University.

They would be able to get their basic certifications, get them behind the bar for a week, get them in the brewhouse for a week, and pretty much give them a whole lot of training in a 30-day process. So that’s our next stage for how we’re going to adjust the club and further the education that I originally envisioned. Velasco-Favela started Mujeres Brew Club as an educational series, bringing in speakers to talk on everything from the history of craft beer to how to make beer. Lia Garcia has managed tasting rooms and done graphic design for many breweries. She’s helping to reimagine the gender and race of the craft beer industry. Mujeres Brew House, San Diego’s first Latina-owned brewery, opened in 2020 with a handful of collaborative brews and guest taps.

Incorporating their Latin culture into their brewery was a process because it was something they did not plan on doing. She and Davila realized they did not have to be afraid about coming off too strong with their Latinidad. They could create a space for women’s empowerment while also showcasing their love for their culture. To help with this, the brewery has invited muralists to come in and do pieces that reflect Latino culture. My plan for winter or fall is to create a 30-day internship program for the girls in the club.

Bringing the Birthright of an All-Female, Latina Brewery to Life

The city’s proximity to Mexico (downtown San Diego is located approximately 14 miles north of the border) has allowed cross-border collaborations and influence to thrive. But despite profiting from these culturally rich assets, San Diego’s 150-plus breweries, as in the rest of the United States, remain largely white male-owned and operated. The vision behind Mujeres Brew House is about providing balance to this skewed community.

“I wanted to find a balance with the beer, so we rotate the ones we create,” Velasco-Favela said. The positive impact of having a woman come into their establishment and feel like they belong while sipping a beer is the driving force for Velasco-Favela and Davila. “Doing anything that focuses only on women is, I think, kind of risky because you never know what people are going to think,” Velasco-Favela said. Mujeres Brew House is an incorporated non-profit collaboration between Border X Brewing, Mujeres Brew Club, and progressive community gallery space Bread & Salt.

So we launched it and hoped for the best and yeah, we sold out immediately. That was the beginning of knowing there was a need for a space for women in craft beer. And not only just a space to learn, but to empower them to get jobs in the craft beer industry.

We have a Moscow mule cocktail, but again we use the same beer base. I just hope that we continue to see breweries that are a little more diverse, more women in their brewhouses, in the front of the house. Especially while facing the challenges of opening a Latina- and women-owned brewery during a global pandemic. Joining forces with Border X Brewing and Mujeres Brew House, the addition of Beer Thug Brewing Co. will contribute to the palate of Latinx craft beer culture.

We grew up with them, it’s a cultural thing, and it’s what we know. She is currently the head brewer at Mujeres Brew House, an all female-run and Latina-owned brewery. Besides inventing some of the most creative beers in Southern California, Olson and Mujeres are also creating a safe space for women and people of color to enjoy craft beer. According to co-founders Carmen Favela and Esthela Davila, Mujeres Brew House will be managed by women and for women with the intent of breaking down barriers of entry into the beer scene.

She said she joined because she saw the lack of Latinos and women of color in the craft beer industry. Mujeres Brew Club (MBC) is a monthly beer education group primarily geared toward women (although its founders remain adamant that it’s a space for everyone). Meetings are held at both Border X’s Barrio Logan location as well as at its satellite location in Los Angeles. “We started Mujeres Brew Club in 2019 and that was an educational series to empower Latinas who drink craft beer already,” said Carmen Favela, owner and co-founder. SAN DIEGO – A brewery in Barrio Logan owned and operated by two Latinas is on a mission to inspire more women of color to make their name in the craft beer industry.

So trying to understand budgeting and cost and all that kind of stuff is kind of where we’re at now and kind of like stabilizing a little bit. Other examples include Buenas Vibras Toronja Blonde Ale, the brewery’s first beer that gets a squeeze of grapefruit to make it easy-to-drink, smooth, light, and crisp. For Velasco-Favela that meant brewing beers with the ingredients, fruits, and flavors of their Mexican culture. From the very beginning, Mujeres Brew House has been a brewery made by women with beers brewed for women. When Helvitiq, a Swiss publishing house, proposed “Beer Hiking” in August 2022, Flashman wasted no time hitting the trails, the breweries and the keyboard.

And while Velasco-Favela never planned to open a women’s brewhouse, the opportunity seemed too perfect. Growing up in South Central Los Angeles, “Those streets were mean,” recalls Mr. Preciado in an article published by the Los Angeles Times. Enduring the troubling and discriminating inequities people of color face in ghettos, Mr. Preciado took solace in craft beer and its community. Olson will keep creating, brewing the way for the next generation of women to create their own beer. She has brewed at different breweries all over San Diego and even created some cider not too long ago. While Mujeres Brew House aims to empower women, it is not just for women.

Don’t worry; as long as you follow these simple guidelines, it’s easy! Find an easy-to-follow nest box plan, or follow these simple tips. The built-in steps on the inside of the front door provide a means for baby birds to climb up when they are ready to leave the nest. This feature facilitates the fledglings’ ability to exit the nesting box safely and encourages their successful transition to the outside world.

It’s possible to get them to visit your bird feeders.

House Wrens currently occupy the broadest latitudinal range of any native songbird in the New World. House Wrens have benefited from the fragmentation of forests across the United States, including Washington. This fragmentation increases the shrubby edge habitat that they prefer. They are fairly tolerant of human activity, which makes them well adapted to our increasingly developed landscape. They also seem to benefit from logging, using slash piles and small snags. This increase may be of concern since House Wrens destroy nests of other species, and compete with other, less common cavity-nesters.

Choose the Right Birdhouse

After the House Wren's eggs hatch, both adults will feed the young in the nest. Interesting note, spider egg sacs are part of the makeup of the nest building. Easily attracted to a properly built Wren House, the male arrives first in early spring and establishes his territory. Some human activity does impact subspecies, particularly those on islands.

Pairs typically break up by the end of each nesting season and choose new partners the next year. Single males sometimes compete for females even after a pair has begun nesting. The house wren (Troglodytes aedon) is a very small bird of the wren family, Troglodytidae. Its taxonomy is highly complex and some subspecies groups are often considered separate species. The name troglodytes means "hole dweller", and is a reference to the bird's tendency to disappear into crevices when hunting insects or to seek shelter. The measurements require a 1 1/8 to 1 1/2 inch hole – no more and no less.

How to Attract and Identify a House Wren

Canyon Wrens are at home in places without water because these birds don’t need to drink! Even when they are near a water source, they are not seen drinking. Instead, they get all of their moisture from their food, which consists of insects and spiders. They mostly hunt on the ground, probing around and under objects for prey with their thin bill.

Songs and Sounds

The best entrance hole diameter to use for these birds is 1-1/8 inches. Yes, it is a good practice to clean nest boxes between broods to encourage other birds, including wrens, to use the birdhouse. A plain brown bird with an effervescent voice, the House Wren is a common backyard bird over nearly the entire Western Hemisphere.

More Birds Like This

Spring migrants begin arriving in late March to mid-April, with males beginning territorial claims by singing from perches. If you spend any time at all watching these birds, you'll easily know the extent of their territory. The song of the young isn't as sure sounding as the adult males, either. This feeding behavior benefits the backyard gardener by reducing harmful pests. Crawling insects and spiders are the primary prey of House Wrens. House Wrens inhabit gardens, hedgerows, brushy woods, wetlands, and other edges.

These birds live secret lives under cover of reeds in hard to reach places in marshes and swamps (as the name suggests). Look for Canyon Wrens in rocky areas where they forage for insects and spiders hidden in crevices. Their short, strong legs mean they can cling onto rocks and even scale a vertical rocky cliff. Cactus Wrens do not have an upright tail like most wrens. Instead, they fan their tails out to show the white tips. Cactus Wrens are easier to recognize with their speckled undersides, large bold eyebrow stripe, and large size.

Rock Wrens are pale brown birds that have a long tail and thin bill. If you look closely, you can small white speckles on their back and wings. Behavior-wise, it’s common to see them quickly bobbing up and down. Lastly, if you have a suitable backyard habitat, you should try putting up a nest box. You may be able to attract a mating pair of Bewick’s Wrens to raise their young!

The nesting site can be located 4 to 30 feet above the ground. Houses can be the mounted or hanging type wrens will use either. Back at the nest, House wrens primarily feed their nestlings a diet of soft-bodied insects such as caterpillars, beetles, flies, and spiders. The male attempts to attract a female, which he takes to each of his nest sites.

But first, you want to make sure you’re choosing a box that will help, not harm, your tenants. Bluebirds and house wrens have virtually identical nesting boxes. Both boxes are the same size, and the entrance hole is big enough for bluebirds and wrens but not larger songbirds such as sparrows. The male House Wren builds a bulky domed nest usually within a cavity, crag, or hidden space. Males may make several “dummy nests” and allow females to choose the one they will actually lay eggs into.

Fish and Wildlife Service, have a huge impact on migratory birds. You can help shape these rules for the better by telling lawmakers to prioritize birds, bird habitat, and bird-friendly measures. ABC has initiatives in place to tackle these threats, including our Glass Collisions program, which offers solutions to keep birds from hitting windows. Our Pesticides program continues to fight the worst of these toxins; we are pushing the U.S.

However, reusing the same nest is less common, as the nest may be infested with parasites or contain debris from the previous brood. If unable to raise young, the female will move farther out of the territory for future broods. The baby wrens do not return to the nest once they leave.

The Charlotte Tilbury Contour Wand is a luxury makeup product that has become a go-to for makeup artists and enthusiasts. This guide will discuss the benefits of using a contour wand, and the 10 best Charlotte Tilbury Contour Wand dupes available in the market. I only recommend products I love and I think you will, too.

Overall, the only difference between these two is shades otherwise the formulation and application are almost the same. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about treating ourselves to some high-end makeup when the stars align and the bank account agrees. Now, I don’t know about you, but sometimes my makeup budget resembles that of a broke college student surviving on instant noodles and dreaming of hitting the jackpot. If you want a quick blend around the face, Charlotte Tilbury is your wing-woman. But if you’re into precise contouring, Milani’s small applicator will be your BFF. Revolution Beauty are a cruelty free brand and this is a renowned dupe as well as being a very affordable alternative to Charlotte’s Contour Wand at just $10. This Charlotte Tilbury Contour Wand dupe is a very similar product to the Maybelline dupe as well. When looking for a great dupe from the list below, you should consider how the color will suit your skin tone. The retail price is $42 USD (or £30 / €38) which, let’s face it, is rather expensive for quite a small amount of product.

Wren Bird House: The Best To Buy & How To Build One

house wren bird

Despite their small size, House Wrens can be fierce competitors for nest sites, sometimes evicting a larger species and claiming its cavity. It’s best to hang your wren nesting box safely high-up and near food sources. While wrens typically nest in secure places in trees, they don’t mind a hanging birdhouse that sways in the breeze. Most House Wrens migrate to the southern United States or north and central Mexico for the winter. Some of Washington's birds move up-slope in late summer after the breeding season, and most have left Washington by late September.

How Frequently Wrens are Spotted in Summer and Winter

The plan below is a common example of a wren house, but the plan calls for a 1 by 6 by 4 inches when it should state a 1 by 6 by 4 feet, not 4 inches. The birds don't need it, whereas predators will have easy access if perches are used. Wrens will use a house that has an entry hole dimension of 1 1/8 inches.

house wren bird

Best Self Cleaning Litter Box

The bird house is equipped with predator guards around the entrance hole and a lockable front door. By maintaining a clean nest box, you increase the chances of attracting wrens and other cavity-nesting birds to use the birdhouse for their next brood. House Wrens are busy foragers in low tree branches and shrubs. You’ll occasionally see these birds flit across openings with steady, level flight, or investigating the ground with quick hops.

The Depth of Your Bird house Is Also Important

Do not worry, the young will leave the nest in days, and the adults will continue feeding and training them for about two more weeks. They are monogamous during the first brood, but any second brood will probably be with another partner. After pairing, the female selects the nest site and starts filling the nest with more twigs. As you watch, the male will begin placing sticks into perspective, nest holes. You'll know he has arrived when you hear him sing from his perches. This songster will sing from dusk to dawn during the mating season.

Wrens in California – Pictures and ID Guide

Ensuring ample space between the entrance hole and the base keeps the eggs nice and protected from predators. The size of the hole is perfect for wrens to enter and exit comfortably while deterring larger bird species and predators. It comes with a removable side panel for convenient cleaning after the nesting season. Look for a rather large wren with a long tail and long bill, but short rounded wings.

These lists show which Wrens are most commonly recorded on checklists on ebird in summer and winter. You can find Cactus Wrens, unusually for wrens, out in the open at the top of a cactus singing or eating the cactus fruit. They can also be seen on the ground hunting for insects and spiders by turning over leaves and other debris.

Celebrate Urban Birds

The song that male Bewick’s Wrens sing varies from individual to individual and from geographic area to geographic area. The most common song you will hear has a pattern of a few introductory notes and ends with a high trill. Bewick’s Wren populations have declined through the years, and one of the main reasons is increased numbers of House Wrens. Unfortunately, when competition arises, it’s the House Wren that typically wins, as they are known to destroy nests and eggs.

House wrens are cavity nesters and are easily attracted to birdhouses. After nesting season, most U.S. and Canadian House Wren populations migrate to the southern United States and Mexico for the winter. The House Wren is one of the most widely distributed native songbirds in the Americas, breeding from Canada to the southern tip of South America. A whopping 31 subspecies are recognized, further divided into five groups. Some subspecies are endemic to individual Caribbean islands, including Cozumel and Grenada.

How High Should A Wren House Be Placed

Males typically mate with more than one female and build multiple nests for each female. They are even known to pierce eggs and kill nestlings of both Marsh Wrens and other birds. House Wrens are commonly encountered by people when their nests are found in odd places. For example, when I was a kid, I remember we found a nest in a clothespin bag hanging outside. Before my mom could access her clothespins, she had to wait until the wrens had raised their young and abandoned the twig nest! Other weird spots for nests include boots, cans, or boxes.

Courtship and breeding begin when the female wrens arrive in a male's territory. The upper parts are unstreaked and grayish brown, the underparts are grayish-white. Notice the faint or missing eye stripe that iscommon in other wrens. Even if no birdhouse is offered, these birds are likely to find somewhere or something to nest in around your home.

The whole series of gurgling and buzzy trills only lasts a second or two, but they can repeat this and carry on for a LONG time. Canyon Wrens are stocky brown birds with white throats and lighter barred tails. They have short, strong legs, which they use to cling to rocks.

We believe that the diversity of our employees plays a major role in our success.

Disney Cruise Ships by Size, Age and Class 2022

disney cruise ship names

While Disney may be a household name, Disney Cruise Line is actually a small line. It currently sails just five ships, compared to 27 at its family-friendly competitor Royal Caribbean. Now, Disney Cruise Line has five ships sailing in those signature colors, along with three more on order. In a normal year, those five ships take tens of thousands of families on sailings to the Caribbean, Mexico, Alaska, Europe, Bermuda, Bahamas, through the Panama Canal and even to Australia and New Zealand. After decades of success making families smile and laugh at its theme parks, Disney dipped its toes into the world of cruising in 1998. Disney didn't just copy another cruise line's model for success or slap its name on the side of an existing ship.

The Disney Cruise Line fleet will grow even further in 2025 when the yet-to-be-named third Triton-class vessel arrives. The ship is set to be almost identical to sister ships Disney Wish and Disney Treature, but likely with some adjusted features. Not much has been released about the ship, but she will be constructed at the Meyer Werft shipyard. If you recently decided you’d like to go on a Disney cruise, but you’re not sure which ship to sail on, we’re here to help. Here are Disney’s cruise ships from newest to oldest, with all the info you need to make a smart decision for your next family vacation. Inside all versions of the teen club, Vibe, you'll find a tech-friendly world with loungers, dance parties, smoothies and other teen-approved fun.

There is so much built into your cruise fare you’ll also get to enjoy merely showing up to your vacation without having to pay a bunch of extra fees all over the ship. The “Disney Difference” continues to impress us with each new cruise. Disney cruising is an amazing experience, and we are thrilled to know it wasn’t just a one-time thing but something we can expect with every Disney cruise.

Today, we are thrilled to share the very first details about our next Disney Cruise Line ship! — we are embarking on an epic new journey steeped in the lore of our favorite Disney heroes and villains. Disney Cruise Line has just revealed the name and theme of the next ship that will sail in 2025, and it’s got us super excited! Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent Eric Stowers said a probe into Neri was launched last December, WPLG reported.

Be sure and ask for the Cafe Fanatic card if you're a regular, as your sixth drink will be free. A pro-level hack is to get Mickey churro waffles from the buffet in the morning (only available some mornings) and add vanilla ice cream for a vacation-worthy breakfast. From room service to evening dinners, meals are (mostly) all included. In the evenings, you'll find included beer, wine and spirits in the lounge — which you can also take with you as you head out to dinner or to enjoy the view from the deck. Some Disney cruises do what's called a "double dip" and make two stops at the private island, where you can step ashore without leaving the Disney bubble.

Then, think about who’s cruising with you and the amenities they’ll need. Then you might want to go with a Dream class or older ship, as they have more spaces and amenities for adults. Since this ship did debut about three decades ago, it has received some upgrades since then.

Disney Destiny is part of the cruise line’s fleet expansion

Per the complaint, one folder on the phone was of a girl from Neri’s native country, which contained a passport image that confirmed her age. Southern District of Florida, Neri had nude images of children on his phone, the New York Post reported. The vessel, the Disney Dream Ship, had just returned from a cruise to the Bahamas. A Disney Cruise Line worker was arrested on child pornography charges in Florida on Monday after federal authorities said they found disturbing images on his phone.

Construction Milestone and Name Announced for New Disney Ship

She was designed to be a more spacious ship, larger than Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream, but catering to a similar number of passengers so that guests benefit from that extra space. With all of the different Disney theme parks, a Disney Cruise may not have been on your radar. However, a Disney Cruise should be on your Disney bucket list for all of the reasons we stated above and more. The magic of Disney, the exceptional Disney service, Disney entertainment and characters, amazing ports of call, a tropical getaway on Castaway Cay, themed cruises, and so much more. As you may expect, the entertainment offerings on a Disney cruise are top-notch.

Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream are bigger and have extra features including more places to grab a unique snack, and the AquaDuck – a water coaster that takes you around the deck. Those ships are significantly larger than the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder, which have two fewer decks, are around 150 feet shorter and can only host around two-thirds of the total guests that the larger ships can. The oldest ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet is the Disney Magic. She first entered service for the cruise line in 1998 and has undergone multiple refurbishment dry docks since then, the most recent in 2018. While Disney Wish is the first of the Wish-class ships, she won’t be the last.

Whereas other family-geared cruise lines went bright, bold and in-your-face with their decor choices and stylings, Disney went vintage and upscale, bringing a certain elegance to the family cruising experience. It made sure to take care of the adults on every family cruise, as well as the kiddos. You'll certainly pay more for the privilege of sailing with Mickey and Minnie than with some other family-friendly lines.

Together, the two ships are the smallest of Disney’s cruise ships, at an intimate 83,000 GT, with just under 900 staterooms in total. Disney Wonder is a bit smaller than Disney Magic, but you won’t really notice that, the difference is so minimal. Like past Disney cruise ships, Disney Fantasy features a vintage aesthetic, leaning Art Nouveau in its public spaces and staterooms. Both Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream are a little bit larger than the Disney cruise ships that came before them. However, even with that extra size, the ships are still relatively intimate and easy to navigate.

In the massive Walt Disney Theatre, you'll enjoy Broadway-caliber evening shows such as "Beauty and the Beast," "Frozen," "Tangled," "Disney Dreams," "The Golden Mickeys" and more. If you want a good seat, arrive about 30 minutes early since seating is first come, first served. If your cruise takes you to Disney's private island, Castaway Cay, you're in luck, as there's plenty of included food to eat there, too. In addition to the included soft-serve ice cream and Mickey bars available via room service, your ship may have some shops with extra-fee ice cream. On Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy and Disney Wish, you'll find an ice cream shop stuffed with candies, gelato and ice cream — all for an extra charge.

The ship will sail Southeast Asia voyages that likely will be aimed at the Asia cruise market. Undoubtedly, the ship’s spaces will also include popular Marvel characters and other superheroes found throughout the company’s large body of work, such as the ever-popular Incredibles family. The cruise line announced on March 20, 2024, that the newest Disney ship and what will be the third ship in the updated Wish class—sister ship to Disney Wish and the upcoming Disney Treasure—will be known as Disney Destiny. The largest overhaul occurred in 2013, with smaller refurbishments occurring throughout the last decade. First, what kind of cruising experience are you most accustomed to and do you prefer already? If you’re an avid cruiser and you love the biggest, best, newest, most modern ships, then definitely go with a cruise on Disney Wish or the soon-to-come Disney Treasure.

The Disney Cruise Line uses something they call “Rotational Dining” to ensure that guests have a chance to experience each of the ship’s themed restaurants. Regarding dining options, Disney Magic has several restaurants, and all three participate in the Rotational Dining schedule. Disney Magic’s dining locations include Lumiere’s (themed after Beauty and the Beast), Rapunzel’s Royal Table (inspired by Disney animated movie Tangled), and Animator’s Palate. In addition, Disney Magic’s Palo restaurant is located on the aft deck. It serves Northern Italian fare at dinnertime (18+, seats 130 guests).

The higher decks and cabins at the front (forward) or back (aft) have better views, but the ship will sway the most the higher you go. The best location on a Disney cruise ship for the best views (widest vistas) is the very front or the very back of the ship. Train at Marvel Super Hero Academy, visit Star Wars Cargo Bay or build your own coaster at the Walt Disney Imagineering Lab. Edge and Vibe cater to tweens and teens, while it’s a small world nursery! Castaway Cay is a tropical paradise located in the Bahamas and is an exclusive port-of-call for Disney cruise guests.
